“What You Think, That You Become”…Bullshit

The saying goes that what you think about becomes what you do, which becomes what you are, and therefore you should be careful what you think about.  This is bullshit.  You do not decide to be awesome and then be it.  You become awesome when you do awesome things, and then eventually you believe and think you’re awesome.

What you do determines what you think.  Our feelings, our emotions, our thoughts are largely a function of what we are doing and what is happening around us.  You do not become who you want to be by sitting around thinking up new strategies.  You become who you want to be by doing the things that person does.

If you want to get over your social anxiety disorder the best way to do it is get in a fight.  Be rude.  Cut in line at starbucks.  Do things people who are extroverted do.  Honk at girls as you drive down the road.  Flip people off.  Talk obnoxiously loud in quiet places.  You lose fear when you do things you should be afraid of.

In fact, most of which that ails us mentally is a function of fear.  We are afraid to take risk.  We are afraid of other people we don’t even know.  All this fear keeps us from achieving much of anything.  You can keep thinking about doing what you want, but you must practice doing it before you will really believe it.

So your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to do something you’re afraid of doing.  Ideally you should do the thing you are most afraid of but if you can’t think of anything try being rude to someone for no reason.  Cut in line.  Bump into someone.  Try the “gaijin smash.”  Tell someone you’re really busy, give them a ton of your work, and then sit around doing nothing.

The more you do things like this the more you will realize that what other people think doesn’t matter, and amazingly, what you think doesn’t matter.  The only thing that matters is what you do.

lol… you could not be more wrong about pretty much everything you just said. I think you should sit down one day, read The Secret, and then rethink your preconceived deductions/conclusions about life.

    Take care.

Sorry Chrisa…….the universe doesn’t exist so that humans can get the things they think about.

What we do shows what kind of person you are. Behavior never lies. Nothing happens until action is taken. Thinking, especially mental conditioning is extremely important, but our actions show what we are truly focused on, which is what i believe the writer is trying to say.

If you’re hungry….thinking about food won’t make it appear…only taking action and moving toward what you are thinking about makes things happen.

Too many people develop ‘Analysis Paralysis”, thinking themselves silly…….but never reaching any of their life goals.

The people that wrote “the secret” are professional marketers (I think Joe Vital wrote hypnotic marketing…not sure). They will make millions on that book. I agree with some of it….but it’s a lot of rehashed fluff, written about by hundreds of other authors with less marketing skills. (you see…..the authors of the secret took action on skills they possessed…..and took thoughts that have been known for years……packaged it nicely and are making lots of money).

Anyway, what a man thinks is important…..but not near as important as what he does.

Plus……that’s the best part in any movie…..period!!!!!! (i’m putting that on my myspace:)
