This is completely crazy and completely true. Unless you eat only organic food, everything that isn’t water is made from natural gas, as in methane, that comes from the ground, mostly from Russia. It doesn’t matter whether you are a vegan or a carnivore. How is this?
Almost everything we eat or drink comes from the ground, or eats what we grow in the ground. Most of this is fertilized with ammonia. Ammonia is made through the Haber Process by combining Methane and Hydrogen. Corn is a particularly good example of this where it is grown with large amounts of ammonia which provides nitrogen. This allows farmers to plant corn close together maximizing output, but simultaniusly decreasing it’s nutritional value. This corn goes on to become corn syrup or feed for cows, chickens, etc. Our delicious cows eat almost all corn meal. When we finally eat that steak and wash it down with a Coke, we’re eating almost all corn, made of ammonia.
This makes for very cheap and very plentiful food. But at what cost? How is a plant to have any nutritional density if it is simply givin one element (nitrogen). This will maximize it’s sugar production, but that’s about it. Compare this to more naturally occuring food which is pulling nutrients from the ground. The dirt it grows in is made from throusands of other plants which have decomposed over time. Each creating a slightly different combineation of chemicals.
What we’re left with is an entire diet of nitrogen converted to sugar. Many eat organic food because they are afraid of pesticides or other chemicals sprayed on their food. While these are genuine concerns the greater danger is the food itself.
